Five tips to avoid infection while wearing adult diaper

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that occurs anywhere along the urinary tract. 

If a person who is prone to urinary tract infections using a diaper can increase their chances of 

getting infections. Also as we get older our immune systems are more easily compromised. People 

who suffer from incontinence are more worry about UTI than just a leak. So how to avoid infection 

while wearing adult diaper? Here are five tips to reduce this risk:

1) Change diaper regularly and keep as clean and as dry as possible. 

Use of adult diapers for either urinary or fecal incontinence can lead to urinary tract infections if 

they are not changed regular and when soiled. If a person is prone to urinary tract infections 

using a diaper can increase their chances of getting infections. So it is important to keep those 

who use diapers as clean and as dry as possible.

2) Use the diaper with an absorbent wicking layer. 

There is also the chance for loss of skin integrity leading to skin breakdown whenever a soiled 

or wet diaper isn’t changed often enough, leading via the skin. So make sure the diaper that 

you use has an absorbent wicking layer, this will help to keep moisture away from the skin longer.

3) Choose the right sized adult diaper. 

Briefs are not one size fits all. Make sure to find a diaper that snugly fits your waist and doesn’t 

leave any gaps open around the legs. Make sure your waist and hips to determine which diaper 

size you need.

4) Drink lots of water. 

Drinking water keeps your urine from getting concentrated and smelling foul. Water also helps 

keep you hydrated, which makes your bladder less irritated.

5) Treat as soon as possible when find infection. 

Mild infections can develop into  severe infections if not treated soon enough.
